The Paediatric Audiology Service supports Bolton children aged 0-16 (up to 19 if in full time education or have special educational needs) with hearing and vestibular (inner ear balance) difficulties. The service offers age and ability appropriate hearing assessment in specialised soundproof rooms. If hearing loss is diagnosed, an individual management plan will be developed to meet the needs of the child including monitoring of hearing and, if appropriate, hearing aids and investigations into causes of hearing loss. The service will also support children with tinnitus (noises in ears) and hyperacusis (sensitivity to loud sounds). The service will also clinically assess and manage dizziness and imbalance related to vestibular dysfunction.
