Changes to collection days

Waste and recycling routes have been revised to:

  • increase reliability
  • enable more efficient waste collection
  • respond to increases in housing development in some areas of Bolton
  • improve customer service

By reconfiguring our routes, we can ensure the necessary resources are in place across all bin collections to offer an improved service to residents.

Your bin will likely be collected on a different day of the week and at a different time in the day. Please look out for your new waste collection calendar which will be delivered before the changes are introduced from 15 July.

We are currently planning bin collections for Christmas 2024 and will update our bin collection calendar website when Christmas dates are available.

Currently the larger bins will remain alternate weekly.

We have already taken account of these bin collection changes when calculating your council tax. These bin collection changes are expected to increase reliability, enable more efficient waste collection and improve customer service. For more information on how information your council tax payments are being used, see this document.

We are making arrangements to cover gaps in service on grey, green and beige bin collections (which will impact a limited number of properties) and will be providing a one-off collection for households that will experience the following in July:

  • 20 days or more gap for collection of the grey bin and green bin
  • 30 days or more gap for collection of the beige bin

Affected households will receive a letter through the door informing the occupier of a one-off bin collection that will take place within the gap period to support residents to manage their waste.
