What happens to my waste?
The general waste (non-recyclable waste) produced in Greater Manchester is sent by rail to an energy recovery plant (combined heat and power plant) in Runcorn where it is used to generate electricity and steam that is used in the operation of the neighbouring plant. Are you struggling to fit all your waste in your grey bin?
If you are struggling to fit your rubbish in the grey bin you can apply for a waste audit. To do this you must fit the following criteria:
- there must be six or more people living in your house
- there must be three or more people in nappies living in your house
- one or more people living in your household has a medical condition that results in the production of extra waste (non-clinical)
- you are currently using all recycling facilities available to you
Any request for a waste audit will result in a visit to your property from a recycling officer. If you are recycling everything correctly and additional capacity is approved, there will be a £34 charge for the admin and delivery of the grey bin.
