Bolton Council has secured an £800 fine for a flytipper to court who dumped fifteen bags of waste in someone else’s garden.

Chris Lovatt pleaded guilty to dumping up to fifteen bags in the back garden of a house in Glynne Street, Farnworth.

This property had issues in the past with waste deposited upon the land by unknown offenders and the rear garden had been previously secured by Bolton Council with a wooden fence and gate to stop any further deposits of waste occurring.

In January 2017, officers discovered approximately 10 to 15 black bags of waste in the rear garden of the property. The previously secured rear garden wooden gate was now lying flat on the floor underneath items of waste.

Chris Lovatt pleaded guilty to dumping the waste and was fined £800, with costs of £375, and a victim surcharge of £80.

The council also prosecuted two other offenders for dumping waste in the back streets.

Adriana Pop pleaded guilty to dumping a sofa and two bags of waste in the back street and was fined £440, costs of £210 and £44 victim surcharge.

Gabor Balog was found guilty in absence of dumping a large amount of cardboard in the back streets and was fined £220, costs of £210 and victim surcharge of £20.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services, Councillor Nick Peel, said: “It’s disgusting and arrogant that some people think its acceptable to dump their waste in other people’s gardens.

It is lazy, antisocial and shows a complete disregard for local residents.

We’re pleased with this substantial fine and will continue to pursue flytippers and those who commit envirocrimes which blight our neighbourhoods.”
