Three residents have been fined, after being found guilty of flytipping or littering, in the latest court cases brought by the council.

Alix Furmage of Mere Walk pleaded guilty to leaving large bags of waste and furniture in the street.

The council’s North Behaviour change team were patrolling the streets of Merehall Close last December when they discovered the rubbish. Examination of the bags revealed that the waste had originated from a nearby property on Mere Walk. Enquiries made by the team revealed that a skip had been present at this location previously.

The property in Mere Walk was visited and she stated that the hirer of the skip had given her permission to put three bags of rubbish in the skip. She was challenged by the team as more than three bags of waste with her address had been found and the skip hirer had not given permission.

She was fined £80, and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £35.

Danielle McClements, of Boston Street, Halliwell, was fined £80 for repeated issues of flytipping at the front and rear of her property.

Last December a council enforcement officer visited her about the issue but was unable to make contact. A further black bag was found next to the front door but no evidence of who had left it.

When the officer returned the next day, she admitted to depositing the bag but became aggressive when he issued an on the spot fine. It was not paid within the 14 day period so the case was sent to court for prosecution.

She pleaded guilty and as well as the fine was ordered to pay costs of £85 and victim surcharge of £35.

Last December a council officer was patrolling Stewart Street, Halliwell when he witnessed Ottila Jonas littering from his car. He was issued with an on the spot fine but it was not paid.

He failed to appear in court and was prosecuted and convicted in his absence. He was fined £220, with costs of £250 and victim surcharge of £30.

A council spokesperson said: “We will continue to demonstrate our resolve to prosecute those who think its ok to dump their rubbish on our streets. There will be no let-up in this fight against anti-social behaviour and the people of Bolton will be seeing more prosecutions.”
