Fly tipping dec 2023Three days of action took place from Wednesday 6 - Friday 8 December, and was carried out by Bolton Council’s street cleansing team and enforcement officers.

Waste including mattresses, sofas and fencing was found dumped around Dijon Street, Daisy Street and Croston Street.

Around 100 bin bags of waste were searched to identify the offenders via addresses on discarded letters.

Cllr Sue Haworth, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said:

“This is an outstanding team effort by our enforcement and street cleaning teams in an area that has been historically problematic for waste related issues.

“Local ward councillors here work tirelessly to report flytipping and littering, join volunteers to do litter picks and work with everyone to find solutions.

“As well as carrying out clean up and enforcement action, officers have spoken to residents to reiterate that they have a legal obligation to dispose of their waste responsibly.

“Likewise, any business paying a man with a van to take away their waste must ensure they are licenced to do so.

“If they are found to be operating without a licence, as in these cases, the businesses can be traced and fined.

“Flytipping is a depressing eyesore that blights areas of our borough.

“If people play their part, everyone can benefit from living in a more pleasant, cleaner and greener environment.”
