Bolton Council is saying a big thank you to residents who give up their free time to help keep the borough tidy.

Litter pickingThere are hundreds of environmental volunteers across the borough. Most of them are residents who clean up their own community, but some residents have joined forces to form litter picking groups that tackle larger areas.

Volunteers organise and promote their own activity whilst the council supports them by providing green bags and equipment to collect litter and by removing the filled bags .

Executive Cabinet Member Cllr Nadim Muslim said: “I would like to thank those who have given up their time to litter-pick. These community efforts make a huge difference and enable us all to enjoy a cleaner, greener borough.

“We all have a part to play in keeping our parks, open spaces and streets clean and free of litter.

“Litter is an eyesore and damaging to the environment and I would urge all residents to think twice before deciding to leave waste behind or dropping litter.”
