Speak to your GP

Speaking to your doctor is a great idea if you want to stop smoking. Especially if you have any physical or mental health conditions or are taking medication.

This is because the chemicals in cigarettes can affect how some medicines work and your doctor may need to adjust your medication. They may also be able to refer you to a stop smoking service and give you a prescription for stop smoking medication or nicotine replacement.

Ask a pharmacist

Pharmacies are a great place to get advice on quitting smoking and how to use nicotine replacement products like nicotine gum, sprays, inhalators and patches. Many pharmacies even have private consultation rooms if you want to have a confidential chat with a member of the pharmacy team. Find a pharmacy.

Stop smoking support for pregnant women

If you’re having a baby, your midwife can refer you to a stop smoking service just for pregnant women and their partners. Here you’ll be given one-to-one support from a stop smoking advisor who is also a trained midwife or maternity support worker. They will support you throughout your pregnancy and for the first 12 months after giving birth.
