Community Legal Advice
Community Legal Advice is a free and confidential advice service paid for by legal aid.
Advice is offered via their national helpline, website, local advice centres and digital TV services.
You can use the Governement website: www.gov.uk/find-legal-advice to find a legal advisor. All providers have the Community Legal Service Quality Mark.
Information and advice about your legal rights is provided in a variety of areas including:
- benefits and tax credits
- debt, money and tax
- education and training
- employment
- family and personal
- government, law & rights
- housing and homelessness
- immigration and nationality
- health and social care
- police and crime
- consumer affairs
- travel, transport and leisure
- environment and the countryside

Financial Advice
Bolton’s Money Skills Service offer free impartial money guidance to people who live, work or study in Bolton. The team can help you with a range of issues including: high energy costs, budgeting guidance and dealing with debts.
If you have a telephone/video appointment with Money Skills, it would be helpful if you could have the following to hand when we call:
- Proof of your income (wage slips, benefit award letters, bank statements etc)
- Any letters from your creditors (the people you owe money to)
- Details of gas, electric and other household bills
- Any court letters
- An idea of your regular outgoings such as your rent, council tax, gas & electricity, food shopping etc
