If you wish to place a skip on any part of the highway, you will need a licence.

It is the skip owner not the householder or contractor who must apply for skip licences on behalf of their customers.

You don’t need a permit to place a skip on private land.

Skip or Enclosed Container for companies registered on the ‘Skip Company Central Register’

Band A Non traffic-sensitive roads, i.e. side streets or roads, cul-de-sacs etc

  • SB11 Seven day licence (renewable) £12.50

Band B Traffic sensitive roads, i.e. main roads, side roads with traffic regulation orders in place

  • SB12 Seven day licence (renewable) £16

Band C Town Centres

  • SB13 Seven day licence (renewable) £36

Skip or Enclosed Container for companies NOT registered on the ‘Skip Company Central Register

  • SB31 Unlicensed skip charge - first seven days (all road types) £56
  • SB32 Unlicensed skip charge - additional seven days (all road types) £15

  • a licence can be valid for any period between 1 and 28 days. For longer periods additional applications should be made
  • only one skip will be allowed on site at any one time except in exceptional circumstances
