Bolton Council achieved Membership of the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter in 2023.

This a voluntary membership and assessment scheme that aims to raise employment standards across GM, for all organisations of any size, sector or geography.  Bolton Council has demonstrated commitment of being a good employment organisation by meeting the seven characteristics of the charter and demonstrated that it is a fantastic place to work.

Bolton Council’s Chief Executive, Sue Johnson, said:

“Membership of the Good Employment Charter is a major achievement for us and highlights the work we have been doing to make Bolton Council an even better place to work.

“Our staff are always willing to go above and beyond, so it is only right that we do everything we can do to ensure they feel valued and supported.

“We look forward to working with the Good Employment Charter team and we urge other local employers in Bolton to sign up for this important initiative.”

Bolton Council will continue to develop and enhance good employment practices and advocate the Good Employment Charter.

What is the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter?

The Charter was developed through a process of co-design, involving the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), all GM districts, Trade Unions and employers and employees from all sectors.

The GM Good Employment Charter has a tiered structure, made up of Supporters, Members and Advocates.

Organisations can register their interest now in becoming a Supporter of the Charter. Later, Supporters will be able to become Members and Advocates.

To become a member, there are 7 characteristics for the Good Employment Charters for Members to evidence is within their organisation; which are Secure Work, Flexible work, Real Living Wage foundation, Engagement and Voice, Recruitment, People Management and Health and Wellbeing.
