Update on Bolton Council’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
New national measures
The government has today announced that Bolton, along with the rest of Greater Manchester, will be in Tier 3 (Very High Alert level) when the current national restrictions ends.
The new tier system will come into force on Wednesday, 2 December.
What are the rules in Tier 3?
- Household mixing banned indoors and in certain outdoor areas such as private gardens (unless they are in your support bubble)
- Rule of six applies in outdoor public spaces like parks
- Non-essential retail, hairdressers and beauty salons can reopen
- Gyms can reopen but group exercise activities should not take place indoors. Some exceptions apply for indoor disability sport, sport for educational purposes and supervised sport for under-18s
- Classes and organised adult sports can take place outdoors
- Pubs, restaurants, bars and cafes are closed unless for delivery, takeaway, click and collect, or drive-through
- Indoor entertainment venues such as play centres, casinos, bowling alleys, cinemas, snooker halls and theatres are closed
- Hotels and other accommodation also have to close
- Places of worship remain open, but you must not attend with or socialise with anyone outside of your household or support bubble
- Large events should not take place, drive-in events permitted
- Weddings and funerals can go ahead – 15 can attend wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions not allowed, and 30 can attend funeral ceremonies
- Avoid travelling to other parts of the UK, including for overnight stays other than where necessary
The government will undertake the first review of the tier system by 16 December.
UK-wide Christmas arrangements
The government has announced arrangements to enable people to meet other households in a safe way during Christmas.
Few days left to apply for Bolton’s Festive Fund
Grants of up to £200 are still available so community groups can thank their members and volunteers for all their hard work this year.
Deadline for applications is Monday, November 30 – fill in the simple application form online (link no longer live).

Community advisors needed for Census 2021
The census happens every 10 years – it counts every person and household in England and Wales and helps to plan and fund public services,
To help do this, the Office for National Statistics is recruiting Community Advisors to engage with specific communities. Contract hours are 25 per week, pay rates range from £13.01 to £16.93, and deadline for applying is December 3.
