Council bank account sort code change
Please be aware that Bolton Council’s bank sort code details changed in 2018. The Council’s bankers, Barclays Bank, have maintained an automatic redirect transferring any payments made using the old sort to the new sort code since that date, however this facility has now ended.
Most individuals and organisations paying the Council are using the new sort code. If you are still using the old sort code, we wrote to you advising that the redirect is due to end soon and ask that you use the new sort code for any payments to Bolton Council with immediate effect.
The Council’s new sort code (as identified on the reverse of your Council Tax bill / Business Rates bill / Invoice) is: 20-10-89
All other banking details remain the same.
Please note that once the redirect is closed, any payments made to the old sort code will be automatically returned as unpaid by the bank.
The specific reason for the return will vary depending on your own bank but will be along the lines of ‘Account Closed’ or ‘Account Does Not Exist’. Any unpaid amounts may result in the Council commencing debt collection proceedings on overdue accounts.
