A scheme to improve a key town centre road will start this Saturday, June 17.

The entire length of Turton Street will be resurfaced from St Peter’s Way to Folds Road.

The main resurfacing work will take place over weekends: June 17 and 18, 24 and 25 and July 1 and 2.

In order to complete the scheme as quickly and safely as possible it will be necessary to close sections of Turton Street during the weekend work.

Motorists will need to use alternative routes during these times, which will be signposted.

On Saturdays (June 17 and 24, July 1): from 8am until 6pm there will be no access from St Peter’s Way on to Turton Street. On Sundays (June 18 and 25, July 2): access to and from Folds Road will also be limited.

Access for local residents and businesses will be maintained. Bolton Gates Retail Park will be open as usual, and full diversions will be signposted.

Other work such as drainage and replacing manhole and gully covers will also be undertaken during the week.

Advanced notice boards have been installed on affected routes to give motorists as much notice as possible.

Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “This is a major route which is heavily used and we understand that this work is likely to cause some disruption.

“I would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience and we would also like to thank motorists, residents and businesses for their patience and co-operation.”
