What will we do?
- We cut grass on standard council land and adopted highways to ensure that people can use roads and pavements safely. We do this especially at road junctions. This is done approximately every five weeks between April and October, weather and resources permitting.
- We also cut verges and open spaces approximately every five weeks between April and October, weather permitting.
- This service can be affected by the weather, and we may be unable to cut grass or use the machinery in wet weather.
- Football pitches operated by the Council will be cut between August and May, but this service will be suspended in adverse weather conditions, avoiding potential damage to the grounds and pitch playing services.
- Many larger areas not used for sport activity are now left uncut to contribute to biodiversity within Bolton’s greenspaces. As these sites naturalise, they can provide evolving wildlife habitats. This approach also supports the Council's Greenspace Strategy, which is currently in consultation.
- From Spring until the Autumn, bowling greens that are maintained by the council receive a twice weekly visit. This includes a grass cutting service, weather permitting.
- Between April and September, cricket pitch out field areas that are maintained by the council receive a weekly visit where we carry out appropriate maintenance, weather permitting.
- Ornamental areas like town centres and cenotaphs receive a weekly visit where we carry out appropriate maintenance. This includes grass cutting if required, weather permitting.
Grass next to high-speed roads (50 miles per hour and over) and dual carriageways is cut at least three times a year. This also includes St Peters Way - A666.
