Update on Bolton Council’s response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Bolton COVID do right thing

Council confirms additional COVID-19 measures for Bolton

Bolton Council in consultation with the government and Public Health England, has taken pro-active action and confirmed additional COVID-19 measures for the borough of Bolton, to stop the spread of the virus in the community, and prevent the need for a local lockdown.

These extra precautions are just for Bolton and will help reduce the infection rate which has recently risen to 114 cases per 100,000 people per week, the highest in England. The largest group affected are those between 18 and 49 years old, who account for more than 90% of the cases.

We are asking all residents in the borough of Bolton with immediate effect:

  • to only use public transport for essential purposes, which means travel to education, work, and essential appointments only eg hospital appointments
  • not to mix with other households in any setting indoors or outdoors anywhere. This does not apply in your support bubble.

The evidence shows transmission of the virus is taking place between households. When people are out and about with friends and family or visiting each others’ homes it is far more difficult to keep a physical distance and practice the other safety measures.

Businesses, organisations, and schools have been made Covid-Secure to protect people against the transmission of the virus.

It is hoped that these measures will prevent a local lockdown in Bolton and bring the COVID rates in the area back in line with the rest of the UK.

Further information about what you can and cannot do can be found om the council website.

Passengers urged to wear face coverings in taxis

People using taxis are being urged by Bolton Council to wear face coverings to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Council chiefs are urging passengers to mask up – the request comes as the latest data reveals Bolton has the highest rate of coronavirus in the country (v per 100,000 w/e 31 August 2020).

Back to school safely: A guide for parents and pupils

The Director of Public Health, Dr Helen Lowey, has written to all parents to reassure them about the measure that are in place to make schools safe.

The council has also produced a comprehensive guide for parents and pupils ahead of returning to school in September.

The government has confirmed that all pupils across all year groups will return to school or college full-time at the beginning of the Autumn term.

The guidance includes details of the safety measures schools have put in place as well as the steps parents can take to help keep everyone safe.
