Bolton Council is seeking a contractor to take on the multi-million pound project to refurbish Westhoughton Town Hall.

The project is expected to go out to tender in the next few weeks and work should start later this year.

Council chiefs want to retain the landmark building in the town centre and aim to refurbish the town hall to a high standard.

They want to preserve and enhance the Market Street building to ensure that it can continue to act as a base for important local services for many years to come.

Work will include improvements to the heating, ventilation and lighting within the building.

It is anticipated that the building, which is currently home to Westhoughton Town Council, will continue to be occupied throughout the refurbishment period.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Linda Thomas, said “This represents a very significant investment in Westhoughton Town Hall, which the council recognises is a vital hub for services and the local community.

“It’s wonderful for the people of Westhoughton and important to preserve the heritage of this iconic building in the heart of the town centre. I look forward to seeing the building when it is completed.”

Funding for the project is part of the council capital budget for 2017-2018.

The tender will be advertised on the Chest.
