Motorists are being warned of potential disruption from Monday, February 20 due to improvement work on Manchester Road.
A £532,000 scheme is currently under way to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at the Manchester Road and Green Lane junction.
This work is funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal and is being delivered by Bolton Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement programme, which is designed to make the transport network more efficient.
Resurfacing will start on Monday, February 20, and will take place until Wednesday, March 1.
Work will also be carried out on Saturday, March 4, Saturday, March 11, and Sunday, March 12.
Temporary traffic signals will be in operation to minimise disruption and restrictions may be in place around the junction at certain times.
On February 24, 25 and 26, and March 4, 11 and 12 access to Green Lane will be limited. Access to Rowena Street from Manchester Road will also be closed between 9am to 3.30pm on February 20, 21, 27 and 28. Diversions will be signposted.
As part of a separate scheme to improve St Peter’s Way, the northbound slip road onto St Peter’s Way from Manchester Road will be closed on Wednesday, February 22 and Wednesday, March 1, between 9am and 3.30pm. This is to enable resurfacing to take place on a section of Manchester Road to Loxham Street.
This work is funded from a grant awarded by the government for improvements to St Peter’s Way.
Diversion routes will be signposted and drivers are warned that delays are likely.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor Elaine Sherrington, said: “The resurfacing work is likely to cause inconvenience and we would like to apologise in advance to residents and road users.
“This work was initially going to take place later on but we’ve brought it forward to take advantage of it being half term next week in an effort to minimise disruption.”
Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, added: “These works are necessary to improving the junction at Green Lane and Manchester Road. People using public transport, as well as drivers and cyclists, will benefit from much-improved journey times.
“Bolton Council is carefully managing the operation and traffic management arrangements on Green Lane and Manchester Road in order to minimise any inconvenience and disruption to the public.
“The Salford Bolton Network Improvement programme, across a number of specific areas within Bolton and Salford, is designed to make the transport network more efficient overall, improve pedestrian safety and improve access to employment opportunities, health, education and leisure.”
