Bolton’s play and youth service is appealing for volunteers to help provide activities for thousands of young people in the borough.

People can find out about volunteering opportunities with the service at an open event at Castle Hill Young People Centre, Castleton Street, from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, January 27.
Light refreshments will be provided. For those who need childcare, there will also be a free play session for four to 12 year olds.

The play and youth service offers free activities for children and young people aged from four to 17 to help them develop socially, physically, intellectually, creatively and emotionally. More than 5,000 young people attended its youth clubs, projects, events and sessions in 2017.

Volunteering with the service gives people the chance to develop new skills, enhance their CV, improve their job prospects, build their confidence and self-esteem and make a difference to their local community.

Cllr John Byrne, Cabinet Member for Culture, Youth and Sport, said: “Our success in 2017 would not have been possible without our hardworking and dedicated volunteers who have a real impact on young people’s lives.

“We know that parents, carers, extended families and others have a lot to offer their local young people centres. Perhaps they are good at giving advice, are great at arts, crafts or sports, or just want to try something new and gain experience of working with young people.

“At this event they can find out how they can use these skills to benefit children and young people – along with the many personal benefits volunteering brings.”
