Motorists are being warned of potential disruption from Monday, November 20 due to resurfacing on Manchester Road in Farnworth.
Work is already underway to improve traffic flow, pedestrian and cycle facilities and reduce congestion at the junction of Manchester Road and Loxham Street.
Resurfacing to the junction will now take place overnight Monday, November 20, until Friday, November 24 and Monday, November 27 to Friday, December 1 subject to weather conditions.
To enable the work to take place safely, Egerton Street, in Farnworth, will close overnight. The road will shut between 8pm and 6am from the Lorne Street junction to the Bolton Road junction.
Diversions will be signposted and motorists will still be able to use the road during the day.
The resurfacing work is funded by the Greater Manchester Local Growth Deal and is being delivered by Bolton Council and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) as part of the Salford Bolton Network Improvement (SBNI) programme.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways, Councillor David Chadwick, said: “In order to do this resurfacing work safely we will need to close Egerton Street overnight.
“We would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience to residents and road users and also reassure them that Egerton Street will remain open during the day.
“Network Rail is still repairing the bridge at Moses Gate railway station, damaged due to a burst water mains, which is a very complex engineering project.”
Egerton Street shut in August and reopened to single lane traffic in October.
Councillor Andrew Fender, Chair of the TfGM Committee, said: “Small improvements at key points in the road network make a positive difference to many journeys. Once complete, all road users will benefit from improved traffic flows, improved facilities and reduced congestion in the area.
“The SBNI programme, across a number of specific areas within Bolton and Salford, is designed to make the transport network more efficient overall.”
