Bolton Council’s Adult Social Care Home Support Reablement Service has just been awarded an overall Good rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

This reaffirms the Good rating awarded in 2017, and has been achieved against a backdrop of a pandemic, rising costs, an ageing population and limited government funding.

The Home Support Reablement Service provides assessment and rehabilitation for people in their own homes.

All areas assessed were rated as good, reassuring residents that service is safe, effective, caring, responsive, and well-led.

Inspectors found that procedures were well managed around risk prevention and infection control, administering medications health and nutrition needs, promoting individual’s rights and communication needs.

The rating is also testament to the high quality of commissioned providers offering information, advice and guidance, adaptive equipment, care and carer assessments, short-term reablement, and care and nursing home beds.

The result endorses “Bolton’s Living Well at Home” vision, supporting the belief that everyone wants to live in the place they call home, with the people and things they love, in communities where people look out for each other, doing things that matter to them.

Under this vision, services target people’s strengths and provide personal care, practical assistance, and support to help them live life as comfortably and independently as possible.

Cllr Linda Thomas, Bolton’s Executive Member Adult Social Care/Health & Wellbeing said:

“We’re delighted with the positive rating which has been achieved under extremely difficult circumstances.

“It underscores the quality of the staff and service providers that have such a positive impact on the lives of our most vulnerable residents.

“We will continue to modernise and improve our services but call on the government to deliver on its promises for Social Care Reform and funding which is needed as a matter of urgency.”
