Council staff, partner organisations and volunteers rolled up their sleeves and got to work cleaning an area of Farnworth last week.

Litter pick August 2023The morning of action on Monday 24 July, included a litter pick and clean-up operation at the rear of Campbell Street and Cawdor Street, Farnworth.

Two skips of waste were removed and scrap metal was left for removal by authorised collectors.

The group also made home visits to the area to raise awareness of the hazards of fly-tipping and educate communities around waste disposal.

Cllr Sue Haworth, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services said:

“Sadly, there is a minority of people who don’t take pride in where they live, along with people who fly tip from vehicles, and it costs the council to clean up their mess.

“We are highlighting some of the great work that goes on in our communities and hard work of our volunteers who help make the borough a great place to live, work and visit.

“This a great example of the council, along with partners like Greater Manchester Police, coming together with the local community to make a real difference.”

Volunteer litter picking

Every week, hundreds of volunteers get involved in their community across the borough and fill green volunteer bags with litter. If you, your school, or local community group would like to organise a voluntary litter picking event in your area, we can support you through lending litter picking equipment and bags.

We can also arrange for collection of the litter after the event. If you are considering a larger community clear up in your area, and larger items of waste need to be removed; we may also be able to help.
