The owner of a Bolton restaurant has been fined for running a restaurant infested with mice.

Yasar Ali Begum, who previously ran Kohinoor restaurant on Derby Street, pleaded guilty to 8 offences contrary to Reg 17 Food Hygiene Regulations 2006 at Bolton Magistrates Court on Monday 27 March 2023. He was fined £4528 and ordered to pay costs of £2,490. The premises is now under new ownership.

Environmental health officers from Bolton Council initially visited the restaurant in February 2022 to carry out a routine food hygiene inspection.

Dirty equipment and mouse infestation were found leading to the business being ordered to close due to the imminent risk to public health.

The business was allowed to reopen some weeks later following a re-inspection.

Bolton Council’s Assistant Director of Environment and Regulatory Services, Garry Parker, said:

“Our environmental health officers did an excellent job bringing about the successful prosecution against this individual.

“Poor food hygiene standards pose a serious threat to public health, and we will not hesitate in taking action against businesses who fall short of their legal obligations.

“We're committed to ensuring food standards remain high throughout Bolton to safeguard our residents and visitors.

“Food hygiene ratings are published online and members of the public are urged to check the rating before they buy food from a business.”
