The final resurfacing work on Great Moor Street will take place next week – and will require overnight closures.
Work has been taking place over the last four months to improve the junctions, signalling, pedestrian access and road surface of Great Moor Street - this will help traffic flow when the new £48m transport interchange opens.
To finish the road improvement scheme, engineers will be putting down the final layer of surfacing overnight next week, which will require closures.
Great Moor Street will be closed from its junction with Newport Street to Bradshawgate from 7pm on Monday (July 24) to 6am on Tuesday (July 25). Newport Street will remain open.
From Tuesday (July 25) to Thursday (July 27) Great Moor Street (from Soho Street to Bradshawgate), and Newport Street will close daily from 7pm to 6am. Diversions will be signposted.
From Monday, July 31, the temporary one way system currently in place along Great Moor Street will be removed, and a new bus lane will come into effect to help traffic flow when the new interchange opens.
The new lane will be operational in an easterly direction from St Patrick’s Church, on Newport Street, to Bradshawgate.
This will mean that traffic cannot turn on to Bradshawgate from Great Moor Street, and will need to use Newport St, and Trinity Street to get on to Bradshawgate.
It does mean that all traffic will be able to travel on to Great Moor Street from Bradshawgate.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Transport and Highways, Cllr David Chadwick, said: “It is really exciting to see the new Bolton Interchange nearing completion.
“When it opens this work and the dedicated lane will help buses get around the town centre more quickly.
“The interchange, Newport Street and Great Moor Street, along with the new Bolton Central building will form an impressive gateway into the town centre.
“As always, we would like to thank motorists, residents and businesses for their patience and co-operation while work has been underway.”
The new transport interchange is being delivered by Transport for Greater Manchester in partnership with Bolton Council. The £48 million scheme is being funded by the Greater Manchester Transport Fund.
