Transport for Greater Manchester Tier 3 travel update

From December 2 under Tier 3 restrictions:

  • You can travel within Greater Manchester, but please reduce the number of journeys you make where possible.
  • You should avoid travelling out of or into Greater Manchester except where necessary for work, education, medical reasons or caring responsibilities.
  • Please plan ahead, allow extra time for your journey, consider travelling outside peak times and using quieter routes.
  • Consider walking or cycling if you can, especially for local and shorter trips.
  • Public transport is running as usual, but you must wear a face covering unless exempt and should follow safety guidelines – keep your distance from other passengers, clean your hands frequently and use contactless payment.
  • Avoid car sharing with people outside your household or support bubble.

Have your say on Bolton Council’s budget plans

On November 30 Cabinet agreed to consult about recommendations to make £39.5 million savings - £37.2m in 21/22 and £2.3m in the second budget year.

The consultation will run from December 1, 2020 to January 12, 2021.

Call for teacher assessments for Bolton pupils

Bolton Council has written to the government asking for the needs of Bolton’s pupils to be taken into account in regards to next summer’s exams.

Councilors have written to the Secretary of State for Education asking for next summer’s exams to be changed to teacher assessed grades.

Bolton’s Fund grants to get people healthy  

Grants totaling £250,000 are now available from Bolton’s Fund to help improve people’s health and wellbeing.

Community and voluntary groups can apply for grants of up to £1,500, up to £5,000, or £25,000 and over depending on the project.

Elves brings festive magic to libraries and museums

Bolton libraries have re-opened and they’ll be some festive fun on the libraries’ social media. Follow what they’re getting up to on Facebook and Twitter. You can find out more information about our libraries including opening times.  

The museum shop has also re-opened though the museum remains closed.

Give a gift this Christmas

Crompton Place Shopping Centre teams up with Fortalice to bring Christmas gifts to families in Bolton and they need your help!

Christmas is usually a time of joy and celebrating, but for some families it’s just not as straight forward as that.

Fortalice provide accommodation, support and frontline services for victims of domestic abuse and violence (DAV) and gives hope to families in Bolton to help them through the darkest of times.

Crompton Place want to contribute to the outstanding service they provide and we’re relying on the help of our shoppers.

We are asking that when you are out doing your Christmas shopping, that you buy an extra gift and simply post it in Santa’s Post Room (opposite Beaverbrooks).These gifts will then be collected, wrapped and distributed to those in need.

Santa’s Post Room will be open for gifts from December 4 – 18.
