Timber merchant. Founder and managing director of J W Rostron Ltd, Rigby Saw Mill, Bradshaw.
Began working life on the railways but went into partnership with a timber business in Ludlow, Shropshire in 1905. Opened his saw mill in Bradshaw in 1910.
Represented Bromley Cross Ward 1932-1956.
Chairman of the Health Committee for 16 years.
Chairman of Highways Committee.
Heavily involved with the housing of children evacuated from Manchester to Turton during the Second World War.
Founder member of the fishing club at Bradshaw.
Prominent Freemason - a founder of the Deane and Moorland Lodges and held Provincial Rank for East Lancashire and Herefordshire.
Anglican - he was a lifelong member of Bradshaw Church and Sunday School. He held all offices at the Church, other than Warden, and was school manager. He was a teacher superintendent at the Sunday School for 48 years.
