Father-in-law of James Fletcher Jnr, Chairman of Kearsley Urban District Council 1895-99.
In 1867 he became a Director of the Farnworth and Kearsley Gas Company and was later appointed Chairman.
In August 1877 he burst a blood vessel at Southport and stayed there until June 1878.
He was elected to the Local Board in 1870 but did not attend any meetings in the last 18 months of his life, though he regularly visited his works.
