You need to be registered to carry out:
- acupuncture
- tattooing
- cosmetic piercing
- electrolysis
- semi permanent skin colouring
You are required to register both the person carrying out the practice and also the premises used for that practice There are no powers to refuse registration, but the practice is controlled through compliance with byelaws in each case.
The applicant must ensure that the procedures, equipment and facilities used are safe, hygienic, prevent the spread of disease and comply fully with the general duty of care required by the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
It is illegal to conduct the above activities unless the registration has been formally approved.
How much does each registration cost?
Acupuncture, tattooing / semi permanent skin colouring, cosmetic body piercing, electrolysis

- Persons - £150
Payments are non refundable once a visit has taken place.
What happens next?
After registration, an inspector will visit the premises to assess the procedures and/or premises.
