Road safety schemes are designed to cut the number of traffic collisions and injuries. Priority is given to locations with a history of accidents.
There are two types of scheme:
Highway improvement schemes
These often involve major changes to the highway layout, such as junction improvements and the installation or upgrade of traffic lights and pedestrian crossings
Traffic calming schemes
These attempt to reduce causalties and lower traffic speed by introducing measures such as speed humps, chicanes, mini-roundabouts and speed limit changes.
We receive many requests for traffic calming. Unfortunately in these challenging times we do not have the funding available to introduce this costly type of road safety improvement on roads and streets within the Bolton area.
Speeding on the highway and other inappropriate driving practices are classed as traffic offences, which are issues that can only be enforced by the police.
