Bolton’s Market Place Shopping Centre has won another top award.

The redeveloped shopping centre won the Best Large Commercial Building category at this year’s Local Authority Building Control (LABC) North West Awards.

The awards celebrate building excellence and recognise the best in the construction industry and local authority building in the region.

Market Place was nominated by Bolton Council ‘s Buildings Control Department following the recent £20 million redevelopment of the centre.

The LABC Awards see buildings judged not for their architectural beauty, but for their construction and technical merit.

The judges were looking for innovative and creative solutions, as well as building control professionalism that results in safe, sustainable and high quality construction projects.

As regional winners, Market Place will be entered into the National Grand Finals at the Westminster Park Plaza in London on 10th November 2017.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: "It is great to see Market Place win yet another award.

“There is no doubt that the transformation of the building has been managed superbly and the end result is extremely impressive.

“It is rapidly becoming a popular destination for shoppers and people who want to enjoy their leisure time in beautiful, modern surroundings, whether that is to eat, drink or watch a film.

"We are delighted to have been involved in such a successful venture."

Nikki Wilson-Cook, Centre Manager, added: “We’re really excited to see that all the work put in to improve Market Place is continuing to be recognised and rewarded, not just in the retail industry, but now within the construction industry too. This can only mean great things for Bolton as a whole and we’re really looking forward to the finals later in the year.”
