Bolton Council has produced a comprehensive guide for parents and pupils ahead of returning to school in September.

The Government has confirmed that all pupils across all year groups will return to school or college full-time at the beginning of the Autumn term.

The guidance includes details of the safety measures schools have put in place as well as the steps parents can take to help keep everyone safe.

It also includes detailed information on:-

  • Attendance
  • School uniform
  • Free school meals
  • Traveling to and from school
  • Early years settings

School across Bolton remained safely open throughout the pandemic for vulnerable young people and the children of key workers.

The council has worked with school leaders, the Department for Education, teachers and unions to make sure all schools are ready to open in safest way possible for all children in September.

School attendance is vital for children’s educational progress, their wellbeing, and their overall development.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Anne Galloway, said:

“School attendance is vital for children’s educational progress, their wellbeing, and their overall development.

“The health of pupils and staff will remain our top priority during this pandemic and a great deal of work, care and preparation has gone into making sure the transition back to full-time school will be smooth and safe.

“I urge anyone who is uncertain about the reopening of schools in September to read the new guidance which clearly sets out how the return to the classroom will work.

“Almost all schools in Bolton were open at the end of the summer term which was managed successfully.

“I thank parents in advance for their cooperation and understanding, and pay tribute to our teachers and school staff for their hard work both in the last academic year and the new chapter ahead.”

Paul Hodgkinson, Executive Principal of Bolton Impact Trust, added:

“A lot of preparation has gone into ensuring that our school sites are safe and now we can finally look forward to welcoming all of our staff and students back to school at the start of September.”

Amanda Hulme, Head Teacher of Claypool Primary School, said:

“School staff have worked extremely hard to prepare for the start of the school year and we are now really excited to welcome all children back into school.”
