A service which helps people with intensive short term care in their own homes has been rated good for the third consecutive year.
Bolton Council’s Home Support Reablement Service was recently inspected by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and was found to be Good in all categories, and Good overall.
Staff who work for the service help people to recover from a physical or mental illness, or adjust to an injury or disability, independently at home with the right support and equipment. This can be for a period of up to six weeks.
People were full of praise for their experience, and compliments included: ‘The carers have been wonderful, so caring, so kind’, ‘They’ve been more than good, they’ve been brilliant’ and ‘They are helping me get back on my feet’.
The CQC inspector looked at the service’s complaints policy and noted comments such as ‘No complaints on the whole’, ‘No missed or late visits’ and ‘I have no complaints about the service’.
They found that any concerns are dealt with in a timely manner so that they didn’t escalate to complaints.
In a recent feedback summary completed by 218 people, 85 per cent of people who used the service were satisfied, with only one per cent dissatisfied as the rest responded with ‘don’t know’ or didn’t answer that particular question.
Furthermore, the inspection found that the service was ‘flexible and responsive’, that staff were up to date with safeguarding procedures and they were supported to undertake regular training.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Safeguarding, Cllr Asif Ibrahim, said: “Our home support re-ablement service is an important part of our overall aim to help people to remain independent in their own homes.
“Some people benefit from the intensive support when they have recently been discharged from hospital, and as a result can make a speedier recovery in familiar surroundings. For some, this can mean that they avoid having to go into residential care. We appreciate the hard work that goes into making people feel more comfortable and their recovery quicker following an illness or injury.”
