The team behind plans to regenerate Farnworth is looking to recruit a new project officer to coordinate £20m of investment over ten years.

As part of the government’s “Plan for Neighbourhoods”, Farnworth is one of 75 towns across the UK to benefit from a share of £1.5bn in funding.

The programme is designed to empower communities to address the issues and concerns most affecting their area.

Last year, a series of engagement events took place with Farnworth residents to identify the improvements and regeneration projects that they would like to see.

A “Focus on Farnworth” board has also been established with members representing residents, businesses and community groups.

The board has overall responsibility for developing and implementing a new vision for Farnworth and for determining which projects will be funded.

Now Bolton Council’s Economic Development and Regeneration Team is looking for a Principal Project Officer to work alongside the board to lead, manage, develop and deliver the schemes.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Farnworth community to deliver projects that will make meaningful change in the day-to-day lives of residents.

Farnworth has previously benefited from £13m from the government’s Future High Streets Fund and several key improvements can already been seen including the upgraded leisure centre, street refurbishment and new homes, shops, and a community hub at the Farnworth Green development.

Bolton Council Leader, Cllr Nick Peel, said:

“These are exciting times for Farnworth with several regeneration projects already delivered or nearing completion.

“Now the £20m of funding and the setting up of a new board mark the next key phase in the town’s ongoing transformation.

“The role of Principal Project Officer is a unique opportunity to get involved in this project, to improve lives and to help Farnworth reach its full potential.”
