Boltonians are being urged not to miss out on the fun and challenges of IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton weekend, as the events are almost sold out.

With six weeks to go, only a handful of places remain for the IRONMAN 70.3 race, IRONKIDS is 80% full, and over three-quarters of the places for Night Run have been snapped up.

The weekend gets underway with Night Run on Friday, June 28, bringing a party atmosphere to the town centre.

From walking the 5k route to going for gold on the 10k, there is something for people of all ages and abilities and over 1,000 people are expected to take part.

The world’s biggest IRONKIDS returns on Saturday, June 29, with the number of places on offer increased to an all-time high of 6,000.

Even so, organisers are encouraging people to make sure that children don’t miss out as the event is expected to fill up.

There will be plenty to keep children and the whole family entertained before and after the event, with food stalls, face painting and a climbing wall among the highlights.

IRONMAN 70.3 Bolton comes to town on Sunday, June 30, featuring thousands of athletes competing along a 70.3-mile course.

This year’s shorter distance and faster, flatter route make it an option for more people than ever before.

The council is also urging people to check their travel plans for IRONMAN 70.3 weekend, as this year both the run and bike legs of Sunday’s event will take place mainly within Bolton.

Road closures will be briefer than in past years, but a new bike route will require temporary road closures in the area of Pennington Flash, into Bolton along Atherleigh Way, North Road and Chew Moor Road, and along Chorley New Road between the town centre and Horwich.

Bolton Council's Chief Executive, Sue Johnson, said:

“IRONMAN is one of Bolton’s most popular and best supported weekends of the year.

“It just keeps getting bigger and bigger, with this year set to be the largest ever.

“To accommodate demand, the council and IRONMAN have worked together to increase the number of places, but with the events on the horizon it’s looking likely that they will sell out.

“I encourage everyone to sign up soon so that they have the chance to be part of this fantastic weekend.”
