An unlicensed ice-cream van trader has been caught and convicted for a second time.
Mohammed Zubair Khan of Bradford Park Drive, Bolton, was convicted in his absence of trading without a street traders consent licence at Bolton Magistrates Court on Monday 27 November 2023.
He was fined £800 and ordered to pay costs totalling £1,848.
In June of this year licencing officers from Bolton Council visited the Harwood area in response to a complaint from a member of the public regarding an unlicensed trader.
They asked Khan, who was trading from Paradise Ices, to show his street trading licence to which he said he did not have one. Khan was advised to go home and not trade until he had the correct licence to do so.
In September there was a further complaint that Paradise Ices was still trading daily, and Khan was once again found to be trading without a licence.
Khan was previously convicted and fined for the same offence in 2013.
Cllr Sue Haworth, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services, said:
“Despite a previous conviction for the same offence, Mr Khan ignored warnings from the licensing team and persisted in trading illegally.
“Unlicensed traders show a disregard for the law and take business away from licensed traders.
“Regulation around street trader licensing helps protect public health and safety and we will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action against anyone trading illegally.”
