A new campaign focusing on relationships has been launched by members of Bolton Youth Council.

In February this year, six young people had the idea to develop a social media campaign that focused on healthy relationships, crucially the importance of consent and identifying negative traits in relationships.

They named the campaign ‘The Empowerment Project’ and hosted consultation sessions with other young people and professionals from across Bolton in order to gather feedback and develop the campaign.

At an event last month, The Empowerment Project Youth Team launched their campaign to several professionals and young people from across Bolton.

Those in attendance included senior leaders from the council, representatives from domestic violence support charities Fortalice and Endeavour, mental health charity Time to Talk as well as Bolton Foundation Trust and Bolton Integrated Care Partnership

Martin Donaghy, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said:

“These young people worked hard to develop concepts and strap lines and were successful in applying for money from Bolton Council’s Community Safety team to create the campaign.

“They should be very proud of their work, and I look forward to seeing how this important campaign develops and grows.”

Bolton Youth Council is a diverse group of young people aged 13-19 years old, who are actively involved in making decisions in Bolton.

They work with lots of different services, groups and organisations to make sure that young people are able to shape and influence decisions.
