In a record-breaking year Queens Park is raising its prestigious Green Flag Award

Queens park 1Today, Bolton Council is celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Award for Queens Park.

The news that Queens Park has achieved the accreditation - the international quality mark for parks and green spaces - is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team that care for the green space so that everyone can enjoy it.

In addition, the Friends of Longsight Park are celebrating after receiving a Green Flag Community Award for Longsight Park.

Rivington Terrace Gardens has also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management of its historic features.

Cllr Richard Silvester, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment, said:   

“This is wonderful news and I congratulate everyone involved at Queens Park in achieving a Green Flag Award for the 8th year running.

“Queens Park is a vital green space for the community in Bolton and the staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award.

“Everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.

“This is particularly special to me as a Councillor representing Queens Park & Central Ward and living opposite to Queens Park which I enjoy and walk through each day on my way to work in Bolton town centre.

“Congratulations also to The Friends of Longsight Park in achieving the Community Award for the 4th year running and Rivington Terrace Gardens for its first Green Heritage Site Accreditation.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
