Farnworth residents are asked to share their views on a proposed scheme to renovate their high-street, part of a wider £13.3m package to transform the town.

Proposals under Transport for Greater Manchester’s ‘Streets for All’ scheme would see improvement to Market Street and Coucill Square with a view to  transforming the public space outside Home Bargains, delivering better pedestrian and cycle facilities along Market Street, and  providing additional seating and more trees.

Work would be funded by part of the government’s £13.3m Future High Street Funding grant awarded to Farnworth in 2020, with just under £3m to be spent on this project.

The concept design for the Streets for All scheme will be out to a period of public consultation from Monday 27th June 2022 to Friday 22nd July 2022.

An online questionnaire is available on the council website via this link

Representatives of designers Mott MacDonald and council staff will be on hand to offer insights into the plans, situated at Brackley Street, on Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd July between 10am and 3pm.

The plans have already been presented to local ward councillors and members of the Farnworth Town Centre Steering Group.

Other projects to be funded by Future High Streets grant are the redevelopment of the Market Precinct, including the creation of a new community and civic hub in the heart of the town centre, and an extension to Farnworth Leisure Centre.

Bolton Council adopted the wider Farnworth Town Centre Masterplan in 2019 following extensive consultation with local people.

It sets out plans to maximise the potential of the town through sustainable regeneration.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Cllr Adele Warren, said:

“It is an exciting time for Farnworth with so many regeneration projects in the pipeline.

“From the beginning, we have involved residents in shaping the plans for Farnworth and we are keen for everyone to have their say on the Streets for All proposals.

“This will help make Farnworth a more accessible and enjoyable place to live, work and visit.”
