A call to help shape services and activities at a new library in Little Lever has gone out to residents.

Following its purchase of the former Tesco site in Market Street, Bolton Council is transforming the building into a new library and community health facility.

By working with local residents, businesses and partners, the new library facility will be tailored to local needs. There will be scope to develop computer facilities and organise more community-led events in a more modern, spacious environment.

At the same time, Bolton Library and Museum Service are seeking the public’s views on how they can improve each of their nine branches, plus Central Library in Le Mans Crescent and the two historic halls (Smithills Hall and Hall i’ th’ Wood).

Consultation displays will be situated in each building until September 10, and visitors will be asked to comment on eight key themes: culture; identity and place; heritage; health and wellbeing; digital; reader development; learning and access; and information and knowledge.

The Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “Our library and museum service is going from strength to strength and we’d like to hear how people see it developing even further.

“We already deliver a lot of events and activities that are linked to the main themes, so we’d like to know what works, what doesn’t and what people would like to see in the future. This could include anything from making services more accessible and holding more events, to working more closely with partners and enhancing our schools library service.

“For Little Lever in particular, this is an excellent opportunity for people get involved in what their new library could deliver.”

The consultation displays are available now in all library and museum sites in the borough.

Little Lever’s consultation display is situated in the current library in Coronation Square.

There will be further opportunity for community groups and schools in Little Lever to get involved from September, via a series of consultation events.

The community health facility in the new library will be developed in partnership with NHS Bolton CCG and Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.
