Bolton Council will distribute vouchers totalling more than £223,000 to local families ahead of next week’s half term break.

Families of school-age children eligible for free school meals will receive a £15 supermarket voucher per child to help with the extra food costs at half term.

Children aged 0-to-5, and those aged 16-to-19, will also receive the vouchers provided that they meet the eligibility criteria.

The funding comes from the Department for Work and Pensions’ Household Support Fund.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Anne Galloway, said:

“At a time when prices are rising, the added cost of food during the school holidays can be an extra challenge.

“That is why we are once again using the available funding to help make half term a little easier for Bolton families.

“In total we will be issuing nearly 15,000 food vouchers to support the children and young people who need it most.”

The Household Support Fund is also being used to provide food and help with utility bills for qualifying Bolton families who apply for local welfare provision.

Money is also going towards the Bolton Fund which gives out funding to community groups which support vulnerable families.
