Residents and businesses are invited to have their say to help shape plans for walking and cycling improvements in Bolton.

Horwich and Farnworth town centres have been identified as benefitting from Greater Manchester's Active Travel Capability Fund, which aims to support commitments to develop the walking and cycling network.

It is proposed the schemes would form part of the Bee Network, which aims to create the largest cycling and walking network in the UK. The aim of this project is to increase active travel by creating safe, pleasant and healthy streets and opening up routes to key centres.

Bolton Council will be working with the local Active Travel Forum and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to develop the schemes, but first want to hear from residents and businesses to help shape the plan.

Cllr Stuart Haslam, Bolton Council's Executive Cabinet Member for Highways, said:

“We want to make it easier for people to move around these areas by foot or bike, without, of course, hindering responsible motorists who are driving in these areas.

“We welcome people’s views on these projects and the more comments we receive, the more it will help us to shape and develop the schemes.

“We will look at the feedback we receive to shape the concept.”

Following the scoping and development phase, the council will seek the funding needed to bring each scheme forward for implementation.

The closing date for the consultations is Sunday March 6, 2022.
