An update from Bolton Council's Director of Public Health, Dr Helen Lowey, on cases of the Omicron variant.

Dr Lowey said: “Last week, we identified a number of ‘highly probable’ cases of the Omicron variant.

“We have now confirmed there are at least four cases of this new variant of COVID-19 in Bolton.

“Robust contact tracing has already taken place and those concerned have been asked to self-isolate in line with the latest government guidance.

“It is more important than ever that we all follow the rules and take simple steps to keep each other safe.

“The vaccine remains our best defence against the virus and everyone who is eligible should get both jabs and the booster as soon as possible.

“Wear a face covering on public transport, in shops and in crowded areas and take a rapid test at home before meeting with others.

“If you have symptoms, you must stay at home and book a PCR test as soon as possible.

“Regular hand washing and keeping rooms well ventilated can also reduce the risk of COVID spreading.”
