Work will start next week to remove a number of trees from Queens Park over safety concerns.

Earlier this year, Bolton Council confirmed that the work would be needed after 77 trees were found to have significant signs of Ash Dieback Disease.

Trees infected with the disease can become unstable, leading to falling branches or even the collapse of the entire tree.

The removals are now scheduled to take place from Monday, November 1.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Environmental Services Delivery, Cllr Nadim Muslim, said:

"This council is committed to planting more trees in order to improve our green spaces and to help tackle climate change.

“Regrettably, trees with Ash Dieback or other fungal diseases present a risk to the public.

“We have a duty to keep the public safe and so therefore we have no choice but to remove them.”

Ash Dieback first appeared in the UK in 2012 and Bolton Council has already taken action to remove infected specimens in other parts of the borough.
