Bolton Council has confirmed the location of the new 3G pitch in Horwich as Old Station Park, adjacent to Horwich Leisure Centre.
This will be the second 3G pitch to be completed, as part of £1.5m of capital funding, which the council agreed in February 2016.
It will be built on an existing all weather facility at the park and will also involve replacing the fencing, installing new lighting as well as the new 3G surface.
The new surface can accommodate training slots for up to 60 teams per week, 5pm-10pm Monday to Friday and at weekends, as well as day time usage which will be great news for the 318 football teams based in the borough.
A contractor will be appointed shortly, with work due to commence in the autumn. The new pitch will be managed via the council’s agreement with Bolton Community Leisure Trust.
Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Resources, Councillor Ebrahim Adia said: “We are delighted to confirm the site for our second new 3G pitch in Horwich. Along with the new leisure centre, this will provide a brilliant range of modern, high quality leisure facilities for the people of Horwich and the surrounding areas. We hope that this will encourage more people to get involved in sport, as well as improving health and wellbeing across the borough.”
