There’s lots of family fun on offer this August Bank Holiday Weekend at Bolton Food and Drink Festival (Friday 27 – Monday 30 August).

The festival, supported by headline sponsor Aldi, will offer an array of free special family activities to enjoy, with something for kids of all ages.

The festival’s Seaside Family Zone will be located next to the Town Hall, where inside a weather-proof open sided marquee, you will find a sandpit, Punch and Judy shows, face painting and much more.

Other festival highlights include:

  • Magic Shows: Prepare to be amazed by daily shows from magician and illusionist Mark Daniels.
  • Street performers will be popping up all over the festival site (including in the park) so look out for them!
  • Award-winning markets: our traders offer food from all four corners of the globe, from Indian street food to fish ‘n’ chips, plus fantastic arts and crafts.
  • Great outdoors: a celebration of Bolton’s parks and green spaces with a Foodie Haven and Picnic Zone in Queens Park – take your treats from the market for a family picnic in the great outdoors.  There’s also a giant inflatable assault course and climbing wall for the more active amongst you!
  • Foraging! In Queens Park: older children may like to connect with nature with Forager, Colin Unsworth to uncover what nature’s larder has to offer on in Queens Park. Tickets cost just £15 and will need to be pre-booked via the website.
  • Panna Football Cage: are you the next Nat Lofthouse or Raheem Sterling? Then why not show us your footballing tekkers in this ultimate test of skill?  The aim of the game is to out-skill your opponent with goals and nutmegs (Panna means ‘nutmeg’ in the UK), so come and have a go if you think you’re skilled enough!
  • Live music: the return of the Main Festival Music stage on Le Mans Crescent, and Victoria Square acoustic stage, both featuring daily headliners and brilliant local musical talent.
  • Octagon Theatre family festival Fri 27 – Sun 29 August. Storytelling, cake decorating and family discos - all free but must be booked at www.octagonbolton.co.uk / 01204 520661.

Additionally, as part of the festival’s support of the Holiday Activities Fund (HAF) Summer Fun programme, each day two of the main regional chef cookery demonstrations will have a focus for younger people who will receive a goody bag with recipes and food, courtesy of headline sponsor Aldi.

Cllr Anne Galloway, Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:

“Bolton Food and Drink Festival is one of the highlights of the events calendar and offers a wide variety of activities for children.

“All summer we have been running the Holiday Activities and Food Programme, helping Bolton children learn new skills, meet new friends and learn about healthy cooking.

“This programme will culminate during the festival weekend as children will have the chance to explore, get active and try exciting new food courtesy of our regional chefs.”
