A civic funeral for Cllr David Greenhalgh will be held at Bolton Parish Church on Friday, August 20.

The Bolton Council Leader sadly passed away in July, aged 53.

The church will open at 9.30am on the day of the service and guests are asked to be seated by 10:45am.

The service will begin at 11am and will be led by the Vicar of Bolton, Revd Canon Dr Chris Bracegirdle.

The funeral cortege will leave Relph’s Funeralcare on Blackburn Road at 9.30am before following a route along Waterloo Street, Tonge Moor Road, Turton Road, Darwen Road, Dunscar War Memorial (10am), Blackburn Road and Topp Way.

It will arrive at Victoria Square and pause in front of the Town Hall steps at 10.30am before making its way to the Parish Church.

Due to the capacity of the venue and the expected attendance, the service will be relayed on speakers outside the church and streamed online on the council website.

Family flowers only, but donations can be made to Manchester Foundation Trust Charity with a note adding “money for the MRI Renal Unit in memory of Cllr David Greenhalgh, Leader of Bolton Council”.

Donations can be sent to the Charity Office, Citylabs, Nelson Street, Manchester M13 9NQ or forwarded to Relph’s Funeralcare, 116/122 Blackburn Road, Bolton, BL1 8DW.

Alternatively, donations can be made online at mftcharity.org.uk/donate/ by clicking MRI Charity and adding a message that the money is for the renal unit.

There will be no parking at the Parish Church or on Churchbank, and Churchgate will be closed to through traffic.

Anyone arriving by car is advised to park at either the Topp Way (BL1 2DJ) or Octagon Theatre (BL1 1SN) multistorey car parks.

Alternatively, parking is available at Bolton All Saints Street East (BL1 2AQ), Bolton All Saints Street West (BL1 2EQ) or Octagon Theatre (BL1 1SJ) surface car parks.

There are 14 pay and display spaces on Silverwell Street, and these will be turned into disabled bays from 8.30am to 2pm on the day of the service.
