Young people across Bolton are being asked to share their views on COVID-19 and explain what may be putting them off taking regular tests.

One in three people with COVID do not suffer any symptoms.

That’s why everyone is encouraged to take regular lateral flow device (LFD) tests at home to make sure they are not spreading the virus to others without realising.

But while the statistics show that young people are catching COVID-19, the number of 16 to 24-year-olds taking regular LFD tests remains low.

An anonymous survey aims to get to the bottom of why this is, by asking young people to share their views and explain any issues or concerns they have about testing.

It is vital that as many people as possible take part in the survey, so public health messaging can be adapted to better engage with young people.

Everyone who enters will be put into a free prize draw to win one of two 6 month passes for you and a friend, which have been kindly donated by Serco Leisure.  Winners will get to choose their local Bolton Community leisure centre which includes Horwich Leisure Centre, Westhoughton Community Leisure Centre, Jason Kenny Centre, Farnworth Leisure Centre and Leverhulme Community Leisure Centre.

Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Cllr Susan Baines, said:

“In order to keep the virus under control and protect each other, it is important we all take regular LFD tests at home."

“We can see from the statistics that many young people are not taking part in home testing, and we want to understand why that might be."

“We want to hear from as many young people as possible. Your answers will provide valuable insight and help us improve our public health messaging.”

Anyone in Bolton aged 16 to 24 can take part by completing the short online survey.

The survey is being run by Bolton Council in partnership with Public Health England and will run until August 31.
