Bolton boy Jason Kenny has won his eighth cycling medal to become Great Britain's most decorated Olympian.

He has equalled Sir Bradley Wiggins' tally of eight medals when he won silver in the team sprint earlier today, but Kenny has one more gold and silver than his fellow cyclist.

Kenny’s male team sprint squad was beaten in the final by an Olympic record-breaking effort of 41.369 seconds from the Netherlands.

His wife and fellow Olympic cyclist Laura Kenny also claimed a silver in the team pursuit race.

Kenny could still increase his tally when he defends his individual sprint and keirin titles later this week.

Cllr Martyn Cox, Deputy Leader of Bolton Council, said: "Jason has had a fantastic start to these Olympic games and as a town we are immensely proud of his achievements.

“He maintains strong links to his hometown and is a great ambassador for Bolton.

“We will be cheering him on for the rest of his races in Tokyo and look forward to seeing if he can add even more medals to his incredible record.”
