After going ‘viral’ with an online event in 2020, Bolton Council is to bring back its hugely successful annual food and drink festival this summer.

It will have a focus on showcasing and celebrating our communities.

The four-day celebration will take place over the August bank holiday (Friday 27 – Monday 30 August), subject to any necessary Covid measures being in place.

The festival will bring together local and regional leading chefs and culinary experts with live cooking events within Bolton Market and local restaurants.

It will bring together local food businesses, artisan market traders, cooking demonstrations, children’s and family activities, street entertainment, bars and live music in what promises to be a fantastic family friendly event.

Working in partnership with the hospitality sector there will be special offers, plus the return of ‘Restaurant of the Year’ (won by The Cherry Tree, Blackrod in 2019) as well as a new ‘Young Chef of the Year’ competition.

The host of entertainment and activities on offer will be planned and created in partnership with local schools and children’s services to ensure a family-oriented event.

Live music from local talent will take place in a range of venues across the town including the festival bars and in open spaces. Working alongside a local music promoter and Bolton Music Service, the programme of events promises to be a unique celebration of our children and young people.

The world of sport will also be celebrated though involvement from Bolton Wanderers FC and Rugby League, ahead of Bolton hosting Rugby League World Cup fixtures later this year.

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr David Greenhalgh said: “Bolton’s ever popular food and drink festival is a fantastic celebration of our town, it’s people and the culinary delights we have to offer.

“After the challenging 12 months we’ve all had and the disappointment of not being able to put on the festival in the usual way last year, it will be wonderful for the community to come together and enjoy a great line-up of family friendly entertainment.

“It’s also a great opportunity to support our local restaurants and bars who have suffered immensely this past year with lockdown restrictions.

“There really is something for everyone at Bolton’s Food and Drink Festival.”

More details about the festival will be made available soon.
