The second phase of Covid-19 vaccinations in the community is due to take place in Bolton this weekend (December 19 and 20).
People who are registered at practices within Rumworth and Farnworth & Kearsley Primary Care Networks have been invited for an appointment.
As with the first phase earlier this week, only patients aged 80 and over have been invited at this stage.
This is a gradual roll-out of vaccines, under direction from NHS England.
The practices involved in this phase include:
- Dr G Counsell & Partners
- Swan Lane Medical Centre
- Garnet Fold Practice
- Shanti Medical Centre
- Kearsley Medical Centre
- Stonehill Medical Centre
- Fig Tree Medical Practice
- The Farnworth Family Practice
In addition, staff from nearby care home Mill View have been invited to receive the vaccine on Friday afternoon (December 18).
Vaccinations will take place at Lever Chambers Centre for Health, Ashburner Street. The site is not a drop in facility and only those with a pre-arranged appointment can be vaccinated.
Senior Responsible Officer for the Covid-19 Vaccination Programme in Bolton, and Clinical Director of Commissioning at Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group, Dr Helen Wall, said: “Following a successful first wave of the vaccination programme, I am pleased to say that more over 80s can now benefit from this vaccine.
“As the lead organisation for Rumworth PCN, this phase is being managed by Bolton GP Federation, in conjunction with Bolton CCG. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and commitment in ensuring we do this as safely and as smoothly as possible.”
“I must reiterate that this is a nationally directed programme that is subject to last minute changes.”
Bolton Council’s Executive Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Cllr Andy Morgan, said: “It is really positive news that care home staff are now starting to receive the vaccine.
“The roll out of the vaccination programme is a huge step forward in our fight against coronavirus and it is the only way we'll get out of this pandemic.
“It’s really important that everyone takes up the offer of a vaccine when you’re contacted, it really will save lives. The next step will be to ensure all our residents are vaccinated.
“The only way we will be able to return to some sort of normal daily life in the future is if we support the vaccination programme and protect our key workers and the most vulnerable residents of our town.
“In the meantime we all need to continue to play our part to protect ourselves and each other by following the Covid rules."
Planning is underway for further phases of the vaccination programme to take place across the borough.
As practices are continuing with their usual services during this time, residents are advised to wait for an invitation from their GP practice rather than contacting them to enquire about the vaccine.
Vaccination appointments will be arranged ether via a telephone call, text message or letter.
Patients are encouraged to continue contacting their GP practice for all other health concerns. The Online Consult form can be filled in and submitted at any time and patients will be contacted within 48 hours.
